Tortilla Chips & Salsa

October 1, 2024 by Shelly Leave a Comment

Ingredients:

  • 10-12 corn tortillas
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (or another neutral oil)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare Tortillas:
    • Stack the tortillas and cut them into wedges (like slicing a pizza, about 8 wedges per tortilla).
  3. Coat with Oil:
    • Place the tortilla wedges in a large bowl. Drizzle with the vegetable oil and toss to coat evenly.
  4. Season:
    • Sprinkle the salt, paprika, and garlic powder over the tortilla wedges and toss again.
  5. Bake:
    • Arrange the tortilla wedges in a single layer on a baking sheet. You may need to use two baking sheets to avoid overcrowding.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until the chips are crisp and golden brown. Stir or flip halfway through to ensure even baking.
  6. Cool:
    • Remove the chips from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack or paper towels to crisp up further.

Fresh Salsa Recipe
Ingredients:

  • 4 medium tomatoes, finely diced
  • 1/2 medium red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeds removed and finely chopped (adjust to taste for spiciness)
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin (optional, for extra depth of flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Combine Ingredients:
    • In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped red onion, chopped jalapeño, and chopped cilantro.
  2. Add Lime Juice:
    • Squeeze the lime juice over the mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Season:
    • Season with salt and ground cumin, if using. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
  4. Let Sit:
    • Let the salsa sit for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. You can also refrigerate it until ready to serve.

Serving:

  • Serve the tortilla chips with the fresh salsa on the side for dipping. Enjoy as a tasty and crunchy snack or appetizer!

Tips:

  • Tortilla Chips: For extra crispiness, ensure the chips are in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  • Salsa: Customize the salsa by adding ingredients like avocado, corn, or black beans for variety.

Enjoy your homemade tortilla chips and salsa!
