Fettuccine Alfredo

October 1, 2024 by Shelly Leave a Comment

Ingredients:

  • For the Pasta:
    • 12 ounces fettuccine pasta
    • Salt (for boiling water)
  • For the Alfredo Sauce:
    • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, for added depth of flavor)
    • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Pasta:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
    • Add the fettuccine and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Alfredo Sauce:
    • In a large skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute, or until fragrant. Be careful not to let it brown.
    • Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the cream has slightly reduced.
    • Gradually add the grated Parmesan cheese, stirring continuously until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
    • Season with salt, black pepper, and ground nutmeg (if using). Adjust the seasoning to taste.
  3. Combine Pasta and Sauce:
    • Add the cooked fettuccine to the Alfredo sauce and toss to coat the pasta evenly. Continue to cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until the pasta is heated through and well-coated with the sauce.
  4. Serve:
    • Transfer the Fettuccine Alfredo to serving plates.
    • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
    • Serve immediately with additional grated Parmesan cheese on the side, if desired.

Tips:

  • Cheese: Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the best flavor and smoothest sauce. Pre-grated cheese can contain anti-caking agents that may affect the sauce’s texture.
  • Creaminess: For a richer sauce, you can add a bit more heavy cream or a splash of milk if needed.
  • Garlic: If you prefer a milder garlic flavor, you can reduce the amount or sauté the garlic in a bit of olive oil before adding it to the butter.

Enjoy your creamy, indulgent Fettuccine Alfredo, perfect for a comforting meal or special occasion!
