Classic Latte

October 6, 2024 by Shelly Leave a Comment

Ingredients:

  • 1 shot (1 ounce) of espresso (or 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee if you don’t have an espresso machine)
  • 8 ounces (1 cup) of milk (whole milk or your preferred variety)
  • Optional: sweetener (sugar, honey, or flavored syrup)
  • Optional: cinnamon or cocoa powder for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Espresso:
    • Brew a shot of espresso using an espresso machine. If you don’t have one, you can use a strong brewed coffee made with a coffee maker or French press.
  2. Heat the Milk:
    • In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling. You can also use a milk frother or steamer if you have one. If using a saucepan, whisk the milk continuously to create a bit of foam.
  3. Froth the Milk:
    • If you’re using a milk frother or steamer, froth the milk until it’s creamy and has a layer of foam on top. If you don’t have a frother, you can use a whisk to create foam while heating the milk.
  4. Combine Espresso and Milk:
    • Pour the brewed espresso into a mug.
    • Slowly pour the hot milk over the espresso, holding back the foam with a spoon to layer it on top at the end.
  5. Optional: Sweeten and Garnish:
    • Stir in any sweeteners or syrups if desired.
    • Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder for extra flavor and a decorative touch.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve immediately while hot.

Tips:

  • Espresso: For a stronger latte, use two shots of espresso.
  • Milk: Experiment with different types of milk (e.g., almond, soy, oat) to find your preferred flavor and texture.
  • Frothing: For a richer froth, use cold milk and make sure to froth it well.

Enjoy your homemade latte, whether you’re starting your day or enjoying a relaxing moment!
