Classic Chocolate Brownies

October 1, 2024 by Shelly Leave a Comment

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a bit of overhang for easy removal.
  2. Melt the Butter:
    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Mix Ingredients:
    • Stir the sugar into the melted butter until well combined.
    • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
    • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Add Chocolate Chips:
    • Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks if using.
  6. Bake:
    • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
    • The brownies will continue to set as they cool.
  7. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack.
    • Once cooled, lift them out of the pan using the parchment paper overhang and cut into squares.

Tips:

  • Texture: For fudgier brownies, slightly underbake them. For cakier brownies, bake them a bit longer.
  • Add-Ins: You can customize your brownies with nuts, dried fruit, or a swirl of caramel or peanut butter.
  • Storage: Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. They can also be frozen for longer storage.

Enjoy these rich and delicious chocolate brownies as a perfect treat for any occasion!
