Ingredients:
- 1 shot (1 ounce) of espresso
- 4 ounces (1/2 cup) of milk
- Optional: sweetener (sugar, honey, flavored syrup)
- Optional: cocoa powder or cinnamon for garnish
Instructions:
- Prepare the Espresso:
- Brew a shot of espresso using an espresso machine. If you don’t have an espresso machine, you can use a strong brewed coffee made with a coffee maker or French press, but it won’t have the same richness as espresso.
- Heat and Froth the Milk:
- Using a Milk Frother or Steamer:
- Heat the milk until hot but not boiling.
- Froth the milk to create a thick layer of foam. For a cappuccino, you want equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and foam, so froth the milk until you have a good amount of foam.
- Using a Manual Frothing Method:
- Heat the milk in a small saucepan until hot but not boiling.
- Use a whisk or a French press to froth the milk. If using a French press, pump the plunger up and down vigorously to create foam.
- Using a Milk Frother or Steamer:
- Combine Espresso and Milk:
- Pour the brewed espresso into a mug.
- Gently pour the steamed milk over the espresso, holding back the foam with a spoon.
- Add the Foam:
- Spoon the foam on top of the milk and espresso mixture, creating a thick layer of foam.
- Optional: Sweeten and Garnish:
- Stir in any sweeteners or syrups if desired.
- Garnish with a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon on top of the foam for added flavor and decoration.
- Serve:
- Serve immediately while hot.
Tips:
- Espresso: For a stronger cappuccino, you can use two shots of espresso.
- Milk: Whole milk typically creates the best foam, but you can use alternatives like almond, soy, or oat milk.
- Frothing: The key to a good cappuccino is the foam, so ensure you have a good amount of froth. The foam should be light and airy.
Enjoy your homemade cappuccino, perfect for a morning pick-me-up or an afternoon treat!
