Classic Cappuccino

October 6, 2024 by Shelly Leave a Comment

Ingredients:

  • 1 shot (1 ounce) of espresso
  • 4 ounces (1/2 cup) of milk
  • Optional: sweetener (sugar, honey, flavored syrup)
  • Optional: cocoa powder or cinnamon for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Espresso:
    • Brew a shot of espresso using an espresso machine. If you don’t have an espresso machine, you can use a strong brewed coffee made with a coffee maker or French press, but it won’t have the same richness as espresso.
  2. Heat and Froth the Milk:
    • Using a Milk Frother or Steamer:
      • Heat the milk until hot but not boiling.
      • Froth the milk to create a thick layer of foam. For a cappuccino, you want equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and foam, so froth the milk until you have a good amount of foam.
    • Using a Manual Frothing Method:
      • Heat the milk in a small saucepan until hot but not boiling.
      • Use a whisk or a French press to froth the milk. If using a French press, pump the plunger up and down vigorously to create foam.
  3. Combine Espresso and Milk:
    • Pour the brewed espresso into a mug.
    • Gently pour the steamed milk over the espresso, holding back the foam with a spoon.
  4. Add the Foam:
    • Spoon the foam on top of the milk and espresso mixture, creating a thick layer of foam.
  5. Optional: Sweeten and Garnish:
    • Stir in any sweeteners or syrups if desired.
    • Garnish with a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon on top of the foam for added flavor and decoration.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve immediately while hot.

Tips:

  • Espresso: For a stronger cappuccino, you can use two shots of espresso.
  • Milk: Whole milk typically creates the best foam, but you can use alternatives like almond, soy, or oat milk.
  • Frothing: The key to a good cappuccino is the foam, so ensure you have a good amount of froth. The foam should be light and airy.

Enjoy your homemade cappuccino, perfect for a morning pick-me-up or an afternoon treat!
