Classic Caesar Salad

October 1, 2024 by Shelly Leave a Comment

Ingredients:

  • For the Salad:
    • 1 large head of romaine lettuce, chopped
    • 1 cup croutons (store-bought or homemade)
    • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • For the Caesar Dressing:
    • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
    • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
    • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (about 1 lemon)
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1/2 teaspoon anchovy paste (optional, but adds depth of flavor)
    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dressing:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese, lemon juice, minced garlic, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and anchovy paste (if using).
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    • Adjust seasoning or add more lemon juice if needed.
  2. Prepare the Salad:
    • In a large salad bowl, combine the chopped romaine lettuce with croutons and freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
  3. Toss the Salad:
    • Drizzle the Caesar dressing over the salad.
    • Toss gently to coat the lettuce and croutons evenly with the dressing.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve the salad immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Tips:

  • Croutons: For homemade croutons, toss cubes of day-old bread with olive oil, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt, then bake at 375°F (190°C) until golden and crispy.
  • Cheese: Use high-quality Parmesan cheese for the best flavor.
  • Dressing Variations: For a lighter version, you can substitute Greek yogurt for some or all of the mayonnaise.

Enjoy this classic Caesar salad as a crisp and flavorful addition to your meal!
